Survival of the species: a warning

G. Antuan SuárezWe cannot pretend to solve all our problems at once,…but we should make anything within our power to gain the time necessary to deal with them.

We should invest most of our efforts in making life in outer space a reality. Most of us have not yet grasped the huge importance it has for us humans to take all measures possible against any possible global catastrophe.

It has taken humanity thousands of years to develop a respectable accumulation system of knowledge (the scientific method) and we shall not take it for granted. Our current sciences and technologies, could be lost if we don’t really protect our species by creating a safe heaven somewhere in outer space. We should no longer think of ourselves as different races, but simply as the human race.

If we don’t do anything about it, and continue our lives as if planet Earth is indestructible, we’ll face our demise, and our destiny will be extremely shameful in the face of the universe, because as a race WE HAD THE POWER, the intelligence, the tools and the imagination to prevent it.

Outer space seems an inhospitable place and our minds and current thoughts tell us that there is no safer place for us than here on Earth. But this is the same mind frame that existed before the New World (the Americas) where discovered. We have to lose our fears; know that we are meant to conquer outer space and to cross to other worlds. We should not be afraid of the huge challenges that are to be undertaken. Experience and knowledge will build within us the needed feeling of security and the view of outer space as our true home.

We should conquer outer space, and provide more probabilities for intelligent life to prosper in our given section of the universe. If we don’t do so, we do not really appreciate the real value of our existence, neither our true potential to become a sane, strong, developing, evolutioned, learned, united, healthy and peaceful society.

Unimaginable technological breakthroughs await us once we focus our efforts in conquering outer space, just like the effect that world wars and conflicts has had on revolutionizing our technologies, this time the revolution shall come by having our minds united with the common purpose of protecting life. Realize that relatively, as soon as we came to exist, we came to be in the brink of extinction. We have been ‘lucky’ so far, but I wouldn’t count on our luck for much longer. In life there is an infinite amount of beautiful things, but when many people share a common dream ordinary things turn beautiful.

Right now it is obvious that no human could ever reach another earth like planet outside of our solar system and come back to tell the story. This should not discourage our efforts and stop us from sending groups of people capable of living and breeding without expecting them to come back, since only their generations will be the first ever humans to personally see other solar systems. In this endeavor we should consider ourselves like trees which release their seeds unaware of where they’ll fall or if they’ll ever survive. Our space ships should become living systems capable of flourishing just like seeds. Seeds are always provided with the knowledge of all past generations.

This is an imminent warning to all human kind. We all know the old saying: “You shall not put all of your eggs in one basket”. Earth is not completely safe, our solar system is not completely safe and not even our galaxy is completely safe. Diversity has always been the best strategy of life and we should diversify in outer space. It is not enough to do space exploration, conquering outer space is a human priority. It’s true we have plenty of problems here on Planet Earth and some might think that conquering outer space is not a priority, but having problems means we are still alive. On the other hand, if we ceased to exist we would have no problems at all and would have wasted countless generations of human breakthrough, our hopes and dreams.

Let’s not create the worst DARK AGES in our history nor our reversal to a bacterial evolutionary condition of existence.

IT MAY SEEM NUTTY AT FIRST....BUT REALLY NOTHING WE DO HERE MATTERS IF WE WON'T RECOGNIZE THAT EVEN IF WE DON'T KILL OURSELVES, SOMETHING FROM SPACE will. If we can't identify and defend against the inevitable then we really should live like there is no tomorrow.
I share your observation...
