Role:
As a member of the User Service Division, the Consultant shall be responsible for the preparation of a wide range of Web content including, static content items, feature stories, news items and Web imagery/graphics which together describe and promote the operational services EUMETSAT provides. Duties shall range from the editing of text provided by colleagues to the initiation and development of new Web content. In executing the tasks, the Consultant is expected to interview and communicate with internal product experts to gather the raw material required for Web content input.
The main tasks of the Web Content Developer are to:
• Produce Web based content (both textual and graphical) on the current and future data, products and services of EUMETSAT, in particular to:
• maintain entries in the Product Navigator
• initiate and create regular feature stories highlighting specific data and products available from EUMETSAT
• coordinate the Home page content (satellite imagery, ‘Focus on’ entries, promotion banners, etc.)
• create operational service News items in a timely fashion
• support the scientific experts in the production of ‘Case Studies’
• maintain/update the ‘Topical Imagery’
• maintain and enhance static Web page content describing EUMETSAT’s satellites and resulting operational services
• Identify and support the development of further Web based services
• Contribute to enhancements of the EUMETSAT Web infrastructure
• Execute tasks and deliverables according to EUMETSAT working practices, standards and guidelines, and support the maintenance of these practices and standards.
Profile:
The consultant will have at least five years’ experience in multimedia publishing for the Web and have excellent writing/editing for the Web skills. (S)he will be capable of communicating scientific ideas to different target audiences, ranging from scientists to the general public. The consultant shall preferably have a University degree in a relevant discipline and will have worked in an international environment. (S)he will be skilled at liaising with technical support teams and subject experts to achieve the desired end product.
The consultant is required to have as a minimum:
• A good knowledge of MS Office, email and Internet applications
• High quality written English
• Proven experience in Web writing and editing skills together with multimedia generation
• Knowledge of Web usability standards and practices
• HTML editing and design skills and familiarity with graphics design packages e.g.
Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience in generating content for Web sites using a Content Management System
• High-level of autonomy in working arrangements and the ability to apply initiative and creativity in the execution of tasks.
In addition, the following skills shall be considered an advantage:
• Familiarity with meteorology; remote sensing or related disciplines
• Knowledge of Stellent Content Management System
• Experience from Search Engine Optimisation
• Experience of using (D/X)HTML, XML/XSL, CSS, Adobe Flash, JavaScript
• Experience of working with designers and developers in a Web publishing context
In addition to being highly self-motivated, the ideal Consultant will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
The ability to work to deadlines and exploit creative Web design whilst ensuring that they keep to their brief is essential.
The working language is English, French would be an advantage. |
