Job Description

Role:

The IT System Engineer and Administrator, in the Information Technology Service Support Group, will perform system administration and maintenance for the corporate ICT environment.

The foreseen detailed tasks, in order of relevance and to be shared with another team member, include as a minimum:

• Operate and Maintain the Server Infrastructure based on HP Hardware and MS Windows Server OS.

- Procure, install, configure and administrate Intel Based servers.

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to hardware components as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades.

- Install, configure, administrate MS Windows server OS.

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to OS, review, install and validate OS patches including lab and field trials.

- Keep the Server Infrastructure under configuration control; ensure that the configuration is supported by the vendors.

- Provide to the other IT teams server resources upon request.

 

Operate and Maintain the Storage Area Network Infrastructure based on HP Storages (EVA)

- Configure and administrate the Storage Area Network.

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the Storage Area Network. as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades.

- Monitor the storage usage and allocated storage space upon request.

 

Operate and Maintain the Virtual Environment Infrastructure based on Vmware Infrastructure.

- Configure and administrate the VmWare system.

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the VmWare system, as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades and patches.

 

• Operate and Maintain the ICT Validation and Test Infrastructure based on Vmware Lab Manager.

- Configure and administrate the VmWare Lab Manager

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the VmWare Lab Manager, as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades and patches.

- Provide to the other team Virtual Environment upon request.

 

• Operate and Maintain the Backup Infrastructure based on Symantec Netbackup.

- Configure and administrate the Backup Infrastructure

- Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the Symantec Netbackup, as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades and patches.

- Ensure successful completion of backups jobs.

- Perform regular data and systems restore tests.

- Restore data and systems upon request.

- Maintain the tape pools.

- Coordinate and ensure that tapes are sent to an outside facility.

- Plan and coordinate the backup of new system.

 

• Provide 2nd level user and technical support.

 

• Contribute to the procurement of information technology services, systems and components by providing specifications and performing price inquiries, as well as act as interface with hardware and software suppliers regarding procurement, warranty and maintenance issues.

 

In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the relevant system engineering standards, as well as procedures for:

• quality management;

• configuration and change control;

• system operations and maintenance.

 

Profile:

 

•University degree in Information Technology or comparable discipline (or equivalent professional experience)

•5 years of experience as IT System Engineer and Administrator in a demanding and heterogeneous computing environment.

•Symantec Netbackup, MS and Vmware certifications and as well hands on knowledge on HP Blade Servers and HP EVA Storage are considered an asset.

 

The consultant is required to have as a minimum:

• Extensive knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of a Server Infrastructure based on Intel Platforms (cluster, SAN, RAID array, fibre channel) and MS Windows server operating systems in an high available configuration.

• Demonstrated experience in patch management technologies and processes.

• Extensive experience in operating and maintaining a Vmware Infrastructure.

• Sound hands-on experience on VmWare LabManager.

• Extensive knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of a backup infrastructure running on Symantec Netbackup 6.x.

• Sound hands-on experience on snapshot technology (hardware and software), stage backup and synthetic backup.

• Demonstrated experience in backing up data from an heterogeneous environment

running multiple OS (Microsoft, Linux and Novell Netware) and from different storage infrastructures (SAN, NAS etc).

• Working knowledge of and experience in storage infrastructure (preferable HP EVA systems).

 

In addition, the following aspects shall be considered an advantage:

• Knowledge of and experience in tuning and maintenance MS Active Directory,

• Hands-on experience in installing, configuring and tuning databases (MS SQL and Oracle),

• Experience in a structured, ISO 9000 certified project and service environment,

Knowledge of ITIL and hands-on experience in change and configuration management. The variety of the tasks requires a high degree of autonomy and the close interaction with users of the IT environment requires good communication skills and a customer-oriented approach with some experience co-ordinating IT related projects.

 

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French.

The working language for the position is English.
