| Job Description |
To provide engineering support to the new biology payload/experiment developments for the ISS, from feasibility studies down to final acceptance and on-orbit commissioning, on behalf of Human Spaceflight Directorate at ESTEC we are looking for: Biology Payload Engineer
The payloads are:
- EMCS Experiments 1st and 2nd batch,
- Biolab Experiments 1st and 2nd batch,
- Kubik Experiments in support of the PRODEX office.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring industrial activities for the development, integration, test and initial operations of the facilities/experiments under development in the HSF Utilization Department;
- Providing continuous status monitoring for the payload activities, assigning corrective actions, elaborating solutions for resources conflicts and implementing necessary changes to the established requirements and plans;
- Supporting the progressive establishment of the payload baseline, from requirements up to and including the end item definition;
- Providing support to the Industrial team in defining and implementing the functional specifications;
- Supporting the organisation and the conduct of project reviews.
Skills and experience:
- University degree in Engineering;
- Fluent in English; knowledge of another member state language is an asset;
- A good knowledge of the International Space Station Programme is required;
- Capability to work in a team with other ESA organizations, e.g. the Payload Operations and Mission Integration Division, as well as with external partners;
- Thorough experience in aerospace activities, including development, integration and launch activities of space payloads;
- Experience in the area of physiology/biology, physiology instrument development.
Starting date: March 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
