In Support to ESA’s Technical Directorate at ESTEC we are looking for a: Modelling & Simulation Software Engineer
This position provides specialised functional support to the ERA project within the real-time and non-real-time software systems domain, including flight and ground software.
Key tasks and Responsibilities:
- Following the complete software lifecycle of the ERA project, encompassing users’ requirements, specification, implementation, documentation, testing, deployment of new software release and the software maintenance process;
- Providing ad hoc support in simulation tools and models used for ERA including its 3D visualisation (texture, model), real time simulator with hardware in the loop, models used for simulation;
- Managing interfaces between ERA and the Russian segment, both for flight and ground segments;
- Managing the porting of the flight software to new hardware platform in accordance with the ISS laptop replacement policy;
- Managing porting of ground segment software to new hardware platform in case of hardware obsolescence.
Skills and Experience:
In addition to several years’ relevant software engineering experience, we are looking for specific experience in the following:
- Good knowledge of software engineering and configuration control methods, tools and standards (ECSS) is essential, in particular for embedded systems and their associated testing and verification;
- Good programming skills in C and C++ is essential;
- Proficient knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX operating systems and advanced knowledge of Windows is important;
- A good knowledge of IRIX is considered an asset;
- Background and experience in robotic operations is desirable;
- Knowledge of real-time modelling and simulation and its application to space projects is very important;
- Knowledge in visualisation systems (VR) is desirable;
- Experience in spacecraft systems engineering is advisable;
- A proactive approach to work, strong motivation, and ability to work as part of an international team are key attributes.
Starting date: April 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
