In support to the ECSS Secretariat at ESA/ ESTEC we are looking for a: Standardization Production Engineer

Key tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the definition, implementation, following, monitoring and reporting of the ESA and EpSDO document production standardization Workplans;
  • Contributing to the definition and maintenance of the ESA and EpSDO standardization processes, and to the corresponding standardization manuals and procedures;
  • Implementing, following, coordinating, monitoring and reporting the standardization process, from the initiation of a document/task (NWI proposal), until its publication/finalization;
  • Verifying adequacy of the technical content of the standardization documents (standards, handbooks and technical memoranda) to their scope, and checking consistency internally and among the different documents, disciplines and branches;
  • Assisting WGs until document publication, to ensure that the standardization documents are compliant with the writing rules;
  • Assessing standards of interest from EpSDO for technical and editorial suitability, by commenting them, analyzing WG dispositions to the comments, and checking proper incorporation of the dispositions into the documents;
  • Supporting the preparation of Standardization and Divisional reports and their presentations;
  • Supporting development and maintenance of the ESA and ECSS standardization websites organization and content;
  • Acting as Secretary of the ESA and EpSDO Standardization boards, task forces and working groups where requested;
  • Supporting the preparation of events (e.g. meetings reviews, conferences and workshops), and the recording of associated minutes and actions and their follow-up.

In addition, to the tasks to be performed, also include as requested:

  • Contributing to the establishment of an ESA standards implementation procedure, its training and application in ESA projects, and supporting the validation of transfer of standards into a requirement database (e.g. DOORS);
  • Participating in the maintenance of published standards by generating/analysing CRs, and assessing feedback and lessons learnt from application of standards;
  • Contributing to the definition, implementation and maintenance of the document configuration process.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in engineering, with specialization in an aerospace related field;
  • Min 5 years of experience as engineer, with at least 3 years in the aerospace field;
  • Good knowledge of office automation tools, and particularly in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio) and e-mail client (e.g. LotusNotes);
  • Fluent in English.

The following qualifications and skills are an asset:

  • Experience in standardization activities, and in drafting requirements documents in projects;
  • Familiarization with Requirement Management Tools (e.g. DOORS) and database management systems (e.g. Oracle, MySQL or Access);Knowledge of OpenOffice and Microsoft;
  • Good organization, presentation and communication skills;
  • Constancy, rigour and initiative in the execution of the assigned work;
  • Open minded and ability to adapt to new situations, with the capacity and attitude for learning;
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team and able to handle occasional high work load situations;
  • Capability to lead a team;
  • Ability to acquire, co-ordinate and synthesize data and provide timely output;
  • Ability to work in an international team environment and to interface at various levels, within and outside D/TEC.

Starting date: May 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter
