As support to the European Space Operations Centre we are looking for a Space Weather Consultant of Space Geodesy and Ionosphere Models
Activities
Our customer conducts mission operations for ESA satellites and establishes, operates and maintains the necessary ground segment infrastructure. You will be working on-site in the Navigation Systems Domain. Navigation Systems are related to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and to high-precision orbit determination (POD) and related instrument validation for Low-Earth Orbiting (LEO) Spacecraft. They are operationally used, e.g. in support to Galileo, EGNOS, Metop and other projects.
The Navigation Systems are developed, operated and maintained as an infrastructure consisting of hardware and software components. As an experienced GNSS and Systems expert you will be responsible for the following activities:
- Support to navigation system improvements in the area of physical modelling of the Earth and its environment, as it affects:
- Precise orbit propagation
- Signal propagation modelling
- Ground station position modelling
- Provide consultancy and run simulations and test scenarios for ESA and 3rd party projects
- Support to the definition of study activities for the Navigation Systems Domain
- Support to international collaboration activities
Skills
You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:
- University degree or equivalent in science or engineering
- Expert knowledge in space weather environment and monitoring
- Understanding of physical modelling of the Earth and its environment
- Instrumentation for space environment monitoring
- Characterisation of space weather phenomena and their effects
- Systems engineering for scientific information service provision
- User requirements capture and change management
- Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards
- Able to work independently and good communication skills
- Fluency in English is mandatory, some knowledge of French or German an asset.
