As support to the European Space Operations Centre we are looking for a Flight Dynamics Test and Validation Expert

Activities

In ESOC, more than 50 spacecraft missions have been successfully supported over the past and - amongst others – Flight Dynamics (FD) Support has become a key element in the control centre.

You will be working on-site in the FD Systems domain in the area of Test and Validation Systems. This section checks and validates Flight Dynamics products that are to be delivered to the Flight Control Centre. The section provides tools to support Flight Dynamics system tests and encompasses the competence for Flight Dynamics simulators. In this role you will be responsible for some or all of the following activities:

  • Provide test tools to support all the testing activities on the flight dynamics system before mission
  • Check online the flight dynamics products during mission operations
  • Specify test tools on the basis of software requirement documents
  • Produce simulated telemetry through appropriate numerical precision simulation of spacecraft dynamics, AOCS hardware and onboard software
  • Produce simulated tracking data (contents and format, including GPS navigation data) for the orbit determination subsystem of the FD domain and file them on the relevant operational host machines

Skills

You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, physics, informatics, computer science, aerospace or any other relevant degree
  • Detailed technical background in some or all of the relevant areas:
    • Orbit dynamics, Orbit determination and prediction
    • Operations support for flight dynamics
    • Satellite tracking data processing techniques
    • Mathematical and stochastic methods and processes, applied Mathematics
    • Classical and Celestial Mechanics
    • Satellite systems and payload (e.g. AOCS, star trackers, propulsion control...)
    • Software Engineering
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the operational Software
  • Knowledge of operational procedures for nominal and contingency scenario
  • Quick, high quality responses to situations arising during critical operations, including quasi-real-time modifications of the operational software
  • Ideally knowledge of relevant standards, including ECSS and CCSDS
  • Fluency in the English language is mandatory
