As support to a European space company we are looking for an Opto-Mechanical Design Expert
Activities
Our customer is a European leader in exciting and technologically sophisticated projects in the areas of satellite and space systems. You will be consulting the Optical Instrument Design & Performance team and the System Engineering & Technologies with opto-mechanical/thermal design for Instruments and Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE). In addition, you will provide feasibility expertise throughout the entire product live cycle (technology studies and Phase A to E) including manufacturability, space compatibility, costs and technological readiness.
Your tasks will include:
- Proactively providing the necessary level of opto-mechanical/thermal design and engineering consultancy, driving concept trade-offs and feasibility analyses as well as assessing the opto-mechanical designs
- Assuring the required level of synthesis and documentation/presentation of instrument design trade-offs
- Supporting integrated opto-mechanical/thermal design and analysis tool development and maintenance in close co-operation with the mechanical/thermal instruments architects
- Establishing and maintaining a data base with supplier/manufacturing data and providing and maintaining knowledge of optical instruments operating in space and OGSE
- Being the focal point for all opto-mechanical questions of the instrument teams
Skills
You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:
- University degree in Optical Engineering, Opto-Electronics or equivalent
- Several years of professional experience in the field of optical instruments
- Sound understanding of opto-mechanical/thermal engineering
- Dedicated expertise in optical instrument hardware and related engineering including AIV/AIT
- Good knowledge of detectors and optical instruments, industrial capabilities for procurement of optical components, readiness level of technologies and actual technology developments related to optical instruments
- Fluency in English and German is mandatory
Starting date: January 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter
