As support to a European space company we are looking for a Focal Plane Subsystem (FPS) Expert
Activities
Our customer is a European leader in exciting and technologically sophisticated projects in the areas of satellite and space systems. You will be consulting the Optical Instrument Design & Performance team and the System Engineering & Technology team, as well as the related projects for all aspects of the Focal Plane Subsystem with focus on detector performance, technology readiness and feasibility. In addition, you will coordinate the different technical disciplines (optical, mechanical/thermal, electrical, cleanliness/contamination) necessary to define the architecture and perform the design of the FPS. Your tasks include:
- Proactively providing the necessary level of detector/focal plane subsystem (FPS) consultancy for instrument concept trade-offs and feasibility analyses, incl. knowledge of detector market and technology, procurement sources, space compatibility and technological readiness.
- Assuring required level of synthesis and documentation/presentation of FPA design and technology trade-offs
- Being fully aware of FPS trends for future instruments and drive related technology developments
- Establishing and maintaining a data base with detector supplier data and providing and maintaining knowledge of optical instruments and detector performances operating in space and on ground
- Being the focal point for all detector/FPA related questions
Skills
You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:
- University degree in Optical Engineering, Opto-Electronics or equivalent
- Several years of professional experience in the field of optical instruments
- A sound understanding of opto-electronical/mechanical/thermal engineering
- Dedicated expertise in optical instrument hardware and related engineering
- Good knowledge of detectors and optical instruments, industrial capabilities for procurement of detectors/FPAs, readiness level of technologies and actual technology developments related to detectors and FPAs
- Customer and results orientation
- Fluency in English and German is mandatory
Starting date: January 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter
