In support of ESA’s TEC and Human Spaceflight Directorates at ESTEC we are looking for a:
Product Assurance Engineer

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide support in the field of product assurance engineering to project teams working in the area of ESA ISS Utilisation payloads development. For specific tasks assignment and project related activities, the Product Assurance (PA) Engineer will report to the ISS Utilisation PA & Safety Manager. He/she will have to:

• Review contractors’ plans, specifications and effort proposed for the execution of the assigned projects PA programme.
• Assist the ISS Utilisation projects and industrial contractors’ payload and experiment development engineers in the implementation of PA requirements.
• Monitor the implementation of the industrial contractors’ PA programme in order to assess their performance and effectiveness and directing the necessary preventive and corrective actions.
• Participate in project reviews, including the distribution of PA documents to experts from the technical support areas and consolidation of the relevant outputs.
• Process NCRs and RFWs. Represent ESA in MRBs.
• Process RFAs and PADs with the support of relevant specialists.
• Monitor and witness manufacturing, integration and test activities, conduct formal inspections including agreed mandatory inspection points and acceptance reviews of the deliverable items.
• Track and solicit closure of action items assigned at project and safety reviews.
• Co-ordinate the submittal by industry of the documentation on materials and supporting the formal materials certification process.

Skills and Experience:

• A university degree in an engineering discipline is required.
• A minimum of 10 years relevant industrial work experience in space project product assurance, and in particular proven experience in the following areas: Quality assurance, Reliability engineering and assurance and/or Configuration management.
• Experience in design, development, manufacturing and testing of space systems is required.
• Able to work in a team and willing to travel.
• Good interpersonal communication skills and be able to work independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Good command of English (spoken and written) is required.

Starting date: February 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. The duration of the work is expected to be at least 2 years.
