As support to a European space company we are looking for an EPS Mission Planning Operations Engineer
Activities
Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products for its users. You will support the EPS (Eumetsat Polar System) Core Ground Segment which monitors and controls METOP satellites and processes all data from its instrument payload. Your tasks will be related to all aspects of managing the EPS Mission Planning Facility (MPF) during routine operations:
- Performing EPS routine scheduling tasks on all EPS operational ground segments and at the BUCC (Madrid) in support of periodic or emergency activations
- Managing and monitoring schedule execution on all ground segments on a daily basis and responding to anomalies and operational contingencies promptly
- Performing preventative maintenance on the MPF according to working practice
- Raising anomaly reports when necessary and monitoring their resolution through attendance at appropriate review boards
- Maintaining a thorough knowledge of the EPS space and ground segment operational needs that are met using the MPF
- Maintenance, update and documentation of the MPF operational implementation
- Performing judicious updates and associated testing as and when changes to the operational implementation are identified, or when bugs/inconsistencies are found
- Maintenance and development of MPF documentation such as the User Guide and the Database Operations Handbook
- Liaising with external entities in order to fulfil joint operations requirements
- Participating in the definition of any changes to the supplied MPF application software or to our in-house supporting software.
Skills
You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:
- University degree in a relevant discipline
- Several years of professional experience in of low earth orbit (LEO) spacecraft and ground segment system operations
- Experience in the following areas is highly advantageous: Routine mission planning and control room operations; a logical rules programming environment (e.g. ILOG, JBoss); UNIX operating system; Satellite monitoring & control CVS Version Control software; Configuration Control software (e.g. Dimensions)
- Fluency in English is mandatory; French would be an asset
