Job Description

As support to a European space company we are looking for a UNIX Application Software Engineer

Activities

Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products for its users. You will be working onsite as part of the GEO Data Processing Systems Maintenance Team to support following tasks/areas:

  • Maintenance of the system level software;
  • Testing of the facility at unit level and facility level;
  • Rolling out patches and releases of the facility application software;
  • Analysis and implementation of evolutions to the system;
  • Anomaly investigation and corrections related to the application software;
  • Development of the reprocessing facilities;
  • Implementation of adaptations to create new reprocessing facilities;
  • Analysis of the adaptations required for algorithms for performance improvement;
  • Transition of the facility development systems into the Technical Computing Environment (TCE):
  • Movement of the source code repositories to the TCE;
  • Configuration of a development environment;
  • Verification of the build and release process using the new TCE repository;
  • Testing and delivery of releases of new versions;
  • Documentation related to the development and maintenance activities;
  • Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews.

Skills

You ideally have the following qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Several years of experience in S/W development, configuration controlled software build environments, as well as in the operation, maintenance or trouble shooting of large, complex, real-time data processing systems;
  • Good knowledge of UNIX application development and testing in C, C++, Oracle version 8 and higher; System level and network programming using sockets, and both TCP/IP and UDP, user interface design and programming;
  • Understanding of source code control systems; Configuration control processes;
  • Ability to work independently; Good communication and analytical skills;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; French would be an asset.
