In support of ESA’s Human Spaceflight and Operations Directorate (D/HSO) at ESTEC we are looking for : Product Assurance Engineer for ATV

The selected candidate will provide support in the field of product assurance engineering to project teams working in the area of ATV Production and Operation. For specific tasks and project related activities he/she will report to the Head of Product Assurance and Safety (PA&S) Office.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of the particular PA&S requirements baseline for the assigned contracts, in compliance with the ESA general PA&S policy;
  • Reviewing of the contractor’s plans, specifications and effort proposed for the execution of the project PA&S programme;
  • Guiding and monitoring the implementation of PA&S requirements by contractors in order to assess performance/effectiveness, participation in design and safety reviews and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions;
  • Representing ESA in the Boards established for Reviews (Failure Reviews, Test Reviews etc) and the disposition of Non-conformances / Anomalies, etc.;
  • Guiding and monitoring the application and procurement of EEE parts, materials and processes and controlling implementation of applicable requirements;
  • Ensuring the implementation of the software PA requirements baseline;
  • Ensuring the preparation of design trade-offs, analyses and reports using RAMS data to support project decisions;
  • Monitoring the manufacturing, integration and test activities with quality assurance audits, mandatory and key inspection points, test witnessing and configuration inspections;
  • Defining the formal acceptance requirements and conducting the Acceptance Reviews of all contractual deliverable items;
  • Supporting the implementation of PA&S requirements in the ATV baseline for production based on ATV mission experience;
  • Participating in the review and assessment of RFWs/NCRs coming from ATV mission phase to assess their implementation;
  • Assisting in the process of NCRs, RFWs, PADs, and RFAs raised during ATV production. Chair the ATV production MRB at ESA level, and participate to the ATV Operations MRB. Support ESA CCB as necessary;
  • Supporting ESA’s ECB and CCB as necessary;
  • Providing support for the tracking of the overall implementation PA/S verifications in support to the CoFR process and statements;
  • Supervising the performance of the contractor PA&S activities/tasks during the launch campaign in CSG;
  • Generating the progress report inputs to the ESA ATV manager and the ESA ATV and ISS PA&Safety Office HSO-IQ.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in and Engineering discipline;
  • More than 10 years of experience in Product/Quality Assurance in space related domains, preferably with experience in operational phases of satellites/ manned space systems;
  • Good knowledge and proven experience in the following areas:
  • Quality assurance
  • Configuration management
  • Safety engineering and assurance
  • Reliability engineering and assurance;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good oral and written skills;
  • Ability to participate and chair meetings within an multinational environment;
  • Ability to work in a matrix oriented organization (reporting to both the project PA&S responsible and the project manager), without continuous supervision;
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.

Starting date: September 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter
