Consultancy support is sought in the field of system engineering to contribute to the evolution of EPS and the definition and design of EPS second generation (EPS-SG). The candidate would be a member of the System Team in the Low Earth Orbit Division (LEO) and be involved in the evolution of the existing EPS during the ongoing operational phase with focus on Metop-B preparation and post launch activities, anomaly investigations and system enhancements. He / she will further support the engineering activities related to the development, specification and design of the future EPSSG.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
EPS Related Activities:
- System related analyses (architectural trade-offs, system technical budgets, RAMS, FMECA, risk analyses) to maintain completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering.
- Maintenance of system requirements and design documents.
- Maintenance of traceability of system requirements to higher and lower level requirements.
- Support to Metop-B pre- and post launch system level testing.
- Contributions to anomaly investigations.
- Support to any Metop-C activities performed during the period.
- Participation in reviews and meetings at system, satellite and ground segment level
- Preparation of and participation to internal meetings
Post-EPS Phase A Related Activities
- System related analyses (architectural trade-offs and system technical budgets, risk analyses) to ensure completeness and coherence of the concepts and design for all aspects related to system engineering.
- Preparation and maintenance of system requirements and of the traceability of system requirements to higher and lower level requirements.
- Support for the preparation and follow up of external studies.
- Evaluation of results of studies (internal or external) and related engineering proposals for system concepts and design.
- Participation in reviews and meetings at system, satellite and ground segment level.
- As needed preparation of and participation to reviews and meetings with industry and with partner agencies (NOAA, DLR, ESA, CNES, ...).
- Preparation of and participation to internal meetings.
EPS-SG Phase B Related Activities
- System related analyses (architectural trade-offs, system technical budgets, RAMS, FMECA, risk analyses) to ensure completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering.
- Preparation and maintenance of system requirements and design documents; for the system requirements specifically including the aspect of requirements verification.
- Preparation and maintenance of traceability of system requirements to higher and lower level requirements.

- Ability to analyse systems from an end-to-end perspective (combined space and ground segment), understand relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects and to present the results in a comprehensible way.
- Demonstrated capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to perform system-level analyses for complex polar satellite systems.
- Practical experience in the integration and verification of such systems.
- Knowledge of the mission profile of polar low Earth orbiting satellites is an asset
- Experience in the operations or operation preparation of polar LEO satellites is an asset.
