In support to a European space company we are looking for an AIT Optical Engineer
In this position you shall be responsible for the concept and implementation of integration and test procedures with regard to all optical aspects in one of the large space projects. Your area of responsibility also includes the definition and procurement of the Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE) for integration and test purposes
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Independent concept of integration procedures with regard to the optical aspects of these procedures within one of large space projects in compliance with functional requirements and cost plans
- Support of the Project- and System-Engineering-Teams throughout all project regarding opto-mechanical AIT aspects, such as the establishment of integration sequences and test definition of the system and its subassemblies
- Close coordination with Development in activities concerning optical sub-systems and the overall system
- Definition of the OGSE in compliance with technical specifications and cost plans
- Issue and compilation of OGSE-specifications for sub-contracting and supervision of detailed design, production and acceptance at the supplier’s premises
- Independent planning and implementation of optical integration and test activities
- Support with the calibration and characterization of the optical instrument with the aid of the OGSE
- Coordination with other Engineering sectors involved in the project, such as Mechanics, Electronics, Software and Production
- Preparation and implementation of standard AIT boards such as TRR, PTR and TRB and participation in cross-project reviews
- Timely preparation and compilation of required AIT documents, such as AIT plans, procedures and test reports
- In cooperation with Product Assurance: conducting inspections, keeping log-sheet records, compilation of non-conformance and problem reports.
Skills and Experience:
- University degree in a technical field (TU / Polytechnic College) preferably with a major in optical systems
- Practical experience as an AIT Engineer or in a similar position in the field of Optical Systems
- Experience in optical measurement technology, incl. Shack-Hartman sensors, interferometers, theodolites and autocollimators
- Organised and structured task approach, high degree of motivation and personal identification with the respective project
- Ability to accomplish set goals by remaining calm and working purposefully even under time pressure
- Ideally, working experience in a similar position dealing with ESA or DLR (German Aerospace Centre) projects in Phase CD
- Experience in dealing with potential OGSE suppliers, knowledge regarding illumination sources such as laser and LEDs, and about construction procedures and cleaning methods for optical equipment (class 100) is an asset
- Good communication skills, willingness to work in a team
- Security clearance up to “secret” would be an asset.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; German would be a strong asset;
