Job Description

In support of ESA’s Technical and Quality Management Directorate (D/TEC) at
ESTEC we are looking for a:
AIT Engineer for BepiColombo

The candidate will be responsible for monitoring the relevant Payload Instrument
and Satellite tests activities, and ensure the availability of operational Ground
Segment Equipment (GSE). The duties will require a close cooperation with the
BepiColombo project team members in the relevant engineering, AIT and Product
Assurance disciplines.

He/She will report to the BepiColombo AIT Manager.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Monitoring of the BepiColombo AIT industrial activities at Instrument,
  • Platform and Satellite level in terms of their technical and programmatic compatibility with the project requirements, leading to the qualification and flight acceptance of the satellite;
  • Monitoring the implementation of the BepiColombo Test Plans applicable to the development validation benches;
  • Monitoring of the Platform and Satellite electrical integration and functional and performance tests by reviewing the test documentation including test plans, test specifications, test procedures and test reports;
  • Monitoring the preparation and execution of the functional tests and abbreviated functional checks executed in the frame of the environmental tests: mechanical, thermal and EMC;
  • Participating in the test reviews including TRR’s, PTR’s and TRB’s, support the AIT/GSE related MRB’s/NRB’s, and support the major BepiColombo
  • Instrument and Satellite reviews;
  • Supporting the identification of problem areas and faults and participate to their effective diagnosis and resolution;
  • Monitoring preparation of the Satellite and test activities during the launch campaign.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent);
  • Six years of professional experience, including functional AIT of spacecraft are mandatory;
  • Experience in Payloads and system functional tests constitutes an asset. A proven ability to work in a project team with a sense of cooperation and negotiation with colleagues at ESA or within Industry is also required;
  • The function will require availability of the incumbent to witness tests and to participate to AIT activities for relatively long periods abroad, up to several months in the case of the satellite launch campaign
  • Fluent in English.
