As support to a European space organisation we are looking for a LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products for its users.
The candidate will be initially assigned to the support of the on-going EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS)/Metop-A satellite routine operations, and the preparatory activities for the operations of the Metop-B satellite due to be launched in 2012. In the longer term, support should be provided on request to upcoming Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Division missions such as GMES Sentinel-3 and EPS Second Generation (EPS-SG).
The candidate will be working onsite as part of the LEO Spacecraft Operations Team and will support the following areas:
- Satellite Service Module Operations (Data Handling, Power/Thermal and AOCS)
- Satellite Payload Module Operations (Payload Monitor and Control, Instrument On- Board Data Handling)
- Satellite Instrument Operations
- On-Board Software Management Operations
- Flight Operations Ground Segment Operations.
Skills and Experience:
- University degree or equivalent in science or engineering;
- Experience in Spacecraft Operations Engineering obtained on an in-orbit satellite or in an operations preparation environment
- Experience in Operations of Low Earth Orbit (LEO), 3-Axis Stabilised Spacecraft
- Experience in Platform (Bus) subsystems (such as power, thermal, data handling, on-board monitor and control, AOCS)
- Experience in Payload subsystems (such as Monitor and Control, Instrument On- Board Data Handling / Transmission, power, thermal)
- Experience in instrument engineering expertise (instrument control, on-board processing, thermal, decontamination etc.)
- Experience with development and validation of operational spacecraft operations procedures for nominal and contingency- recovery cases.
- Familiarity with some of the following would be an advantage:
- OBSW
- Earth Orbit (LEO)
- Commissioning
- Metop service module, payload module or instruments
- Familiarity with Flight Control Ground Segments (Mission Control, Planning etc.)
- Familiarity with the EPOCH 2000 control system;
- Familiarity with the MOIS procedure development toolset
- Programming language such as C++, Visual basic, Software package such as MATLAB, SPICE, IDL, PV-WAVE ;
- Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures
- Ability to work independently as well as good communication skills;
- Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of French is an asset.
Starting date: January 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
