Job Description

Role:

The tasks of the Consultant will typically include:

Supporting routine operations involving the MSG and MTP image processing systems, including:

Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG and MTP image processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP image products

Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG and MTP image processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP image products

• Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to instrument data

processing operations

Supporting the further development of the MSG image processing system, including the specification and validation of system updates

• Supporting the operations preparations for future MSG spacecraft

• Supporting Meteosat Third Generation preparations

• Attendance at technical meetings

• Participation in formal reviews

 

Profile:

 

In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have strong mathematical skills, a very good knowledge of digital image processing techniques and at least three years experience with:

• Image Navigation and Registration of images from remote sensing spacecraft

• Radiometric correction of images from remote sensing spacecraft

• On-board calibration of images from remote sensing spacecraft

Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Consultant to have experience with or knowledge of some of the following:

Real-time processing in a complex operational environment of image and sounder data from remote sensing spacecraft

• Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft

• UNIX, IDL, and C++

• Prototyping of image processing algorithms

• Validation of large computer applications

• Spacecraft and/or ground segment operations

 

The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision.

Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills.
